Course Overview

The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) Hydraulics module provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely perform basic hydraulic tasks on wind turbines.

Developed by the Global Wind Organisation, this course introduces technicians to turbine hydraulic systems, component functionality, maintenance principles, and safe working practices in accordance with GWO standards.

This module can be taken individually or as part of GWO BTT Combined

Prerequisites

To attend Basic Technical Training (BTT) Hydraulics, delegates must:
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be registered in the WINDA database
  • Be medically fit to participate in practical exercises

Hydraulic Safety Fundamentals

  • Fluid safety and environmental considerations

Wind Turbine Hydraulic Systems

  • Pitch control systems

  • Accumulators and valves

System Components & Function

  • Filters and fluid management

Inspection & Maintenance

  • Identifying leaks and wear

Practical Training

  • Hands-on work with hydraulic training rigs

Certification & Assessment

Upon successful completion, delegates receive a GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) – Hydraulics certificate which is:
  • Recorded in the GWO WINDA database
  • Recognised by wind industry employers worldwide
  • Not required to be renewed (there is currently no expiry date

Assessment is based on practical demonstrations, scenario-based exercises, and instructor observation.
